ruby
The July birthstone, Ruby is one of the most coveted of gems. They are a variety of the mineral corundum and range in colour from pink, to the finest color of a deep red with a hint of purple, called 'pigeon’s blood' in the trade. They have a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale which makes them ideal for every day wearing.
Garnet
Garnet, the birthstone for January, are a group of silicate minerals whose name comes from the Latin word 'Garanatus,' meaning 'seedlike,' in reference to pomegranate seeds which are similar in shape, size, and color to some garnet crystals.
RED SPINEL
Spinel is a bright, hard and durable unheated natural gem, and has become increasingly popular in recent years. Available in a range of red, pink, blue, mauve, steely grey and black colours, it is a great alternative for the more expensive Ruby and Sapphire and a more durable option for some of the softer gems like Tanzanite and Tourmaline.
